I have decided to try out this Cardinals blogging trend I am seeing.
First off, let me tell you a little about me. I am a reporter and photographer for a weekly newspaper. I cover everything from news to sports and have a great time with it! I am also aware that journalism has been a great hobby to get paid for and it is time to find a grown up job. That is why I am in graduate school getting my masters in public administration.
I am a fan of my school, Arkansas State University, and my dad’s school, U of Memphis. But the most important thing my father taught me is to be a St. Louis Cardinals fan. My fondest memories involve my father and I watching games or taking the trek up to Busch Stadium. For a short period of time, I broke my father’s heart and became a fan of the San Francisco. I believe it was pre-teen rebellion or maybe I was mad about John Tudor not being a Cardinal anymore. For what ever reason, I did this but after the strike I found my way back to my team and have never turned back from my love of the Cardinals.
So now to what is really on my mind today.
The Cardinals off-season began Sunday afternoon after our beloved team defeated the Rockies.
According to baseball-reference.com, this will be the fourth season since 2000 that the Cardinals won’t be heading to post season play.
It is very upsetting!
I usually do cheer for another team to do well in the playoffs, because I do enjoy this sport so much.
But I will tell you one thing, it is certainly no NL Central team.
I’ve never had to think about cheering on the Pirates. They haven’t done anything since the 1990s.
The Brewers? Tuck them!
Astros? Brad Lidge and his pitches bouncing off Albert Pujols’ bat and off a Crawford box do make that team endearing, but no thanks!
Cubs? Cubssuck? No thanks!
Until this season, I never had to worry about the Reds. They were kind of lovable losers. I didn’t give a rip until I was interrupted in life by a female tweeter with an affinity for the Reds blasted me for tweeting I thought it was ridiculous that the Reds Joey Votto was being considered for MVP or why such a stink was being made about him not being voted on the All-Star team. At the time, I did think it was crazy!
And then Aug. 10 happened!
After The Brawl, the Reds garnered my disdain on the level of the Cubs. How dare Brandon Phillips call my Cardinals a bunch of “little bitches” …Look in the mirror bud! And Johnny Cueto? Way to end Jason LaRue’s career and kick the mojo out of Chris Carpenter.
So no, I can’t cheer for another NL Central team! It would be like a Yankee fan pulling for the Red Sox…. the Giants pulling for the Dodgers. Not possible!
So tomorrow afternoon, at 4 p.m. Central time, I will be pulling for the Phillies and Roy Halladay to beat those Reds.
And I don’t want just a one game beating… I want a Phillies sweep of those Reds. Shut the Reds up Phillies.
Make them your little bitches!
